finding Chamber 502

2004

Chamber 502 was born in 2004, under the name Zwart, when the project Karyon stopped experimenting with sound, music and styles. After 3 years of making more and darker music it became time to focus energy on one specific style. This resulted in the song "And Forgotten", mid 2004. Zwart, like Karyon, started out as a Solo project although there’s always been a tight bond between Zwart and the soloproject Audiofever (also based in The Hague). Liveshows were always done together, mixed sets where both musicians would provide backingvocals for eachothers songs.

2005

More gigs, continuously developing sound and themes, Zwart started to perform more throughout the country, often still accompanied by Audiofever and taking turns in who would be the opening act.

2006

The next step forward by adding a female vocalist, Morwen. This move resulted not only in a better and more unique sound - one should never underestimate the power of dynamics in a musical project - but also in a request to open for Canadian band Ayria at two different clubs. The first gigs abroad, in Belgium and Hungary, were also very exciting and refreshing.

2007

New milestones were reached by the first gigs organized by Cybercase, a "three new band" performance at Cybergothic Syndrome and also opening for Psyclon Nine. Sadly Morwen left the band late 2007 for personal reasons (read first section of this page about the "open female vocalist" position). Simultaneously Grendel offered to do the post-production and mixing of four tracks (Sapiens, Sycophant, ..for a Song and Tuberculosis).

2008

The new name Chamber 502 was officially adapted, for several reasons. Do your research (or read the section below) to find out why this name is fitting for the music and themes. Apart from this there were also a few practical reasons, like aiming more at the international listeners. The DJ/Promoter demo is almost ready to be released and sent off around the globe. Ferani joins as a female vocalist during the summer of 2008, Chamber 502 is officially a 'duo' again.

...hence chamber 502

a bit of history

In the year 1986 the Sanitarium "Waverly Hills" was closed down due to malpractice in curing patients suffering from tuberculosis. Urban legend has it that 63000 people died in this hospital, which would explain the extremely large amount of paranormal activity in and around the premises of this building.

The most supernatural activity can be found in room number 502. Urban legend has it that one of the nurses (who was pregnant but not married) committed suicide in this room, either by hanging herself, or jumping through the window.

we are all sick

The themes of Chamber 502 are inspired by, but certainly not limited to, the story above. You will find many other references to diseases in the C502 lyrics, such as memory loss through Alzheimer, heart attacks, leukemia and other forms of cancer. It is a grave misunderstanding to conclude that diseases are glorified in this way. We are all sick, we will all be sick in the future and we will all die. As other bands romanticize suicide, death, abuse and other forms of misery, Chamber 502 romanticizes diseases to give a different perspective of what fate sometimes bestows upon our insignificant little lives. Please stay healthy, that you may become a thousand years.
